Courses & Records on different Servers

A. Installing DynEd content on one server and storing records to a different server

  1. Create a directory on your server where you would like to store the records (such as ..\MYRECORDS).
  2. Run the installer (SETUP.EXE), use the "Advanced" button on the third screen to set the "Student Records Path" to that path on the server (such as ..\MYRECORDS).

B. Installing the DynEd content on two servers and storing records in one server.

  1. Do a normal discless installation to Server-1 (the server where you want the Student Records stored.
  2. Start a normal Installation to Server-2. On the third screen, click on the "Advanced" button. Set the "Student Records Path" to the DynEd directory on Server-1.
  3. Create short-cuts on half of the client machines pointing to the ...\dyned\launchw.exe application on Server-1. Create short-cuts on the other half of the client machines pointing to the ...\dyned\launchw.exe application on Server-2.

Things to remember:

  • When you choose a path make sure that it is a path that all clients will ALWAYS have access to. It should not be a path that they only have access to if they remember to log onto the server.

  • If you choose a path that is a mapped drive such as F:\DYNED, then make sure that it is a mapping that all clients will ALWAYS be mapped to. It should not be a mapping that they only have access to if they remember to map it when they log onto the server.
